"Driving the High-Tech Economy in New York State"

This lecture will feature a special presentation by Pat Foye, Deputy Secretary for Economic Development, Office of the Governor.

Under the leadership of Governor Cuomo, New York State has a new economic development vision and call to action to transform the State’s economy.  New York has a long history as a research and technology innovation powerhouse.  The Governor’s announcement late last month of $4.4 billion of private investment from Intel, IBM, TSMC, Samsung and Global Foundries without a dollar of taxpayer subsidy represents a new paradigm of economic development. The goal is to leverage the State’s assets across the State to drive the 21st century economy through business growth in nanotechnology, life sciences, energy, and other cutting edge sectors. Regional Economic Development Councils are engaging communities across the State in this effort. Please join us to hear the latest in the drive to accelerate New York’s high-tech industry from Governor Cuomo’s Deputy Secretary for Economic Development, Patrick Foye.

New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics & Life Sciences

The New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics & Life Sciences (COE) was created in Buffalo, New York in 2002 as part of more than $200 million dollars in investment from state, federal, industry and philanthropic sources to create a hub of life sciences expertise and innovation in Upstate New York. The COE brings a strong foundation in life sciences research and discovery to its mission and collaborative efforts with industry, government and researchers around the world to improve the health and well-being of the population. COE research institutions have been around for more than 100 years with the University at Buffalo (UB) as the lead academic organization, and Roswell Park Cancer Institute and Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute as research partners.
